Hull Duo Ready For Challenge

New boys Seyi Olofinjana and Jozy Altidore are keen to help Hull City become a force to be reckoned with.

The Tigers' new signings believe they can help the club establish a permanent presence in the Barclays Premier League.

Nigeria midfielder Olofinjana, who arrives in a £3m deal from Stoke, and USA striker Altidore, on a season-long loan from Spanish side Villarreal, became the club's first signings of the summer.

Both believe they can add strength to a side which only narrowly avoided relegation last season.

Next Level

Olofinjana, 29, who has signed a four-year contract, said: "As a football player you always set targets and want to improve.

"I'm coming here not just to add to the numbers but to play my part in taking this club to the next level.

"What happened last season happened but I'm sure the club have learned from that."

Olofinjana is keen to make up for lost time after falling down the pecking order at the Britannia Stadium.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers player started the Potters' first 13 matches last season but then made the first XI just once more and decided to move on.

Altidore is highly regarded in the US and impressed in his country's recent run to the final of the Confederations Cup.

His deal, which is subject to a work permit hearing on Monday, includes an option to buy next summer should Hull City be interested signing the player permanently.

Great Players

Altidore said: "I hope to help Hull progress. It's an up-and-coming club and for myself it's going to a great experience.

"I've been lucky enough to play in Spain and now the Premier League, two of the best leagues in the world. Hopefully I can help the team in any way they need.

"I'm a huge follower of the Premier League. Most people think it is the best league and I'm no different.

"It boasts a bunch of great players and teams and anybody who's anybody would like to get a chance to play in it."

The arrivals of Olofinjana and Altidore end a frustrating period for manager Phil Brown in which he has missed out on a number of targets.

He now hopes to add more new faces before the start of the season, which begins with a trip to Chelsea on 15th August.

Senegal striker Henri Camara, who was released by Wigan Athletic at the end of last season, could be the next to sign if he impresses during his current trial.

The Tigers are also hoping to agree terms with another Senegal player, defender Habib Beye, after having a bid accepted by Newcastle United.
