Terry: Drogba Will Make The Difference For Chelsea

The Blues skipper thinks that retaining the Ivorian's services was the most important deal of the summer at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea opened their Premier League campaign with a win yesterday, after a brace from Didier Drogba secured a 2-1 victory over a well-organized and hard-working Hull City side, who had taken a first-half lead after a debut strike from Stephen Hunt at Stamford Bridge.

Blues captain John Terry is in no doubt that hanging onto the man who netted the winner was a vital piece of summer business, and feels that the big striker could make the vital difference in the race for the Premier League title this season, with Chelsea's main rivals having lost key men.

"Manchester United have lost Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo, Liverpool have lost Xabi Alonso and Arsenal have lost Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure," the England defender told the official website of the Premier League.

"We have re-signed Didier, which is massive. He's just brilliant and a winner and that has been important to Chelsea.

"[Florent] Malouda and [Jon Obi] Mikel have also re-signed. Flo had a great second half to last season and has started this time where he left off."

And Terry confirmed that the yearning for glory amongst the Stamford Bridge players was as intense as ever, especially when it came to wresting back the domestic title from Manchester United.

"The hunger among the boys this year to win the Premier League is as strong as ever," he added.

"We want that and the Champions League and, with our squad being held together, there are plenty of reasons for optimism."
