Newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers went down to goals from Mark Noble and Matthew Upson at Molineux.
Noble clipped a shot over Wayne Hennessey after being set up by Carlton Cole on 22 minutes.
The home side were again guilty of ball-watching in the 69th minute when West Ham went 2-0 ahead.
Matthew Upson was allowed a free header at the back post and headed beyond Hennessey following a corner from Noble.
